Dreams in Progress – Bee and Kao’s Future Home

2025 Habitat Homebuyers Bee and Kao are so close to moving into their new home. We had the privilege of sitting down with them to hear about their family’s journey, the challenges they’ve overcome, and the excitement they feel as they prepare to open the door to a brighter future. Their story is one of hard work and resilience.

Kao and Bee are loving parents to their six children: Laila, Tristan, Salvia, Ethan, Ashton and Mason. Despite both parents working full-time jobs, finding a home to buy in their budget was a challenge. Currently this family of 8 lives in a apartment that does not meet the needs of their growing children. With only one bathroom and little room to play, Kao has dreamed of a space where her family can flourish. Soon that dream will be a reality.

Hard Work Pays Off

Over the past year, this family has invested in their future by completing financial and homeownership classes, volunteering on Habitat build sites, and serving at the Appleton Habitat ReStore. These hours—known as “sweat equity”—are a key part of the Habitat Homebuyer program, where families work alongside volunteers to help build their own and others’ homes. Through this effort, they’ve gained valuable skills, built confidence, and prepared for long-term success as homeowners. (Bee pictured second from right)

Kao and Bee heard about Fox Cities Habitat’s Homebuyer program through a friend who went through the Habitat Homebuyer program themselves. When they saw their friends home being built and heard what Habitat’s program can offer, the couple knew that this could be their chance to achieve their dream of homeownership.

The family was overjoyed to learn they had been accepted into the Habitat program. Bee and Kao are eager to achieve their goals—building equity, growing their savings, and creating a strong foundation for a brighter future for themselves and their children. Once they move in, they look forward to celebrating with a housewarming party, surrounding their new home with the love and support of family and friends from the very beginning.

A Dream Backyard

Laila, Tristan, Salvia, Ethan, Ashton, and Mason can’t wait to have a backyard of their own to play in. With more space and extra rooms, they’ll have the freedom to play, grow, and dream big. And their dreams are as bright as their futures—from becoming an actress, to a doctor, firefighter, or police officer. Watching their parents work hard to achieve their goals shows the kids that their own dreams are truly possible.
