A Home Full of Blessings

At Fox Cities Habitat for Humanity, we often talk about the power a safe and stable home has in a family’s future, but stories like Kong’s remind us just how real that transformation is. As one of our 2023 homebuyers, Kong recently sat down with us to share how life has unfolded since move-in. What she described was more than an update; it was a heartfelt reflection on hope restored, confidence rebuilt, and the many blessings her family has experienced along the way.

Watch the video below to hear their story!

Kong and her partner, Yia, are parents to three incredible children: Vivy, their oldest, Bella, and their youngest, Ian. Before partnering with Fox Cities Habitat, the family experienced frequent moves that brought a constant sense of uncertainty and stress. Stability was something they longed for but struggled to find. Today, their Habitat home has given them the foundation they needed and a place where their children can grow, thrive, and simply be kids.

The impact of this stability can be seen most clearly in their children’s achievements. With room to breathe, learn, and feel secure, the kids have flourished. Vivy has made the honor roll at school, a milestone that fills the family with pride. Bella has earned a youth leadership award and shines in her school band program. Their home has given them not only a place to sleep but an environment where confidence and possibility can bloom.

For Yia and Vivy, who both live with disabilities, the home has also brought renewed independence. Vivy is blind, and Yia relies on a walker, wheelchair, or cane. Their home’s zero-step entrances, grab bars, and first-floor laundry have transformed daily life in meaningful ways. Tasks that once required help are now things they can accomplish on their own. Even the bright lighting throughout the house has been life changing, helping Vivy navigate spaces more easily and giving her greater freedom to do things herself.

For Kong’s family, this home is more than walls and a roof. It is a place where their children are thriving, where accessibility supports everyday life, and where hope has room to grow. It has been a fresh start and a powerful reminder of what a safe, stable home makes possible.
