Family Services Coordinator Position

Join the team of dedicated staff and volunteers at Habitat for Humanity - a homeownership program for hard-working families in need of a decent, safe, and affordable home.
The Family Services Coordinator will work directly with families as they apply for the program, move through the selection process, fulfill sweat equity and education requirements and become successful home owners.
Qualified applicants will have at least 3 years case management, education and/or financial counseling experience, and a bachelor’s degree. Experience working with diverse populations and knowledge of community resources are required. Position requires strong people skills with the ability to develop trust, problem solve and manage conflict. Bilingual applicants (Spanish or Hmong) preferred.
This is a part-time, paid position working 20 – 25 hours per week.

Title: Family Services Coordinator
Reports to: Manager, Family Services
Supervises: One or more of the following: (1) Family Partnership Committee Volunteers and Family Education Specialist/VISTA, OR (2) Family Selection Committee Volunteers and Budget Mentors, OR
Summary: The Family Services Coordinator works directly with homeowners, by coordinating one of the following stages of the Habitat for Humanity Home Ownership program:
(1) Application and Home Building – on-going communication & education of homeowners, and training & managing family partners
OR
(2) Family Selection and Maintenance – facilitating the selection process, mortgage management and foreclosure prevention programs.
NOTE: Specific responsibilities and tasks may be adjusted based on the candidate’s experience, skills and interests.
Responsibilities:
Supervision of Volunteers/Support Staff
- Facilitate a positive, team-oriented environment in which all volunteers and staff are given the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
- Provide training, supervision and evaluation of Committee volunteers and support staff, ensuring that they are educated on low income issues in addition to Habitat policies and procedures.
- Serve as the staff liaison to Family Selection or Family Partnership Committees, providing administrative support, attending meetings, and relaying information between the Committees and the Board.
- Through support staff, effectively implement and manage systems to track family activities.
Recruitment and Selection
- With support from Outreach staff, coordinate the family recruitment efforts
- Respond to individual family inquiries throughout the recruitment process, maintaining contact with ineligible applicants for future consideration
- Facilitate the application review process, providing support to Family Selection volunteers and applicants throughout the process.
- Communicate selection decisions and prepare families for next steps
Construction and Pre-Closing Preparation
- With support from Construction staff, guide families through the lot selection and home design process.
- In coordination with Volunteer Services staff, ensure that homeowners fulfill their sweat equity hours.
- Assist families in securing down payment assistance and fulfilling paperwork requirements related to closing.
- Ensure that HFH has submitted all required closing documents in a timely manner.
Family Education and Case Management
- Manage programs, facilitate and conduct training to provide family support and self sufficiency.
- Build relationships with other appropriate agencies in the community, and attend community coalition meetings.
- Provide referral resources as appropriate to homeowners and family partner volunteers, and coordinating those services as needed.
- Listen to, mentor and guide partner families and homeowners through situations impacting their ability to be successful homeowners.
- Communicate and collaborate with other staff to facilitate the appropriate resolution to Habitat-related issues raised by homeowners. Act as the family’s advocate, while maintaining Habitat guidelines and policies.
- Monitor delinquent mortgage payments according to established procedures, creating and enforcing manageable payment plans when needed.
