
Habitat for Humanity is always looking for dedicated volunteers who are willing to help run the organization and plan for its future. Serving on a committee is a great way to help the organization and to use some of your professional skills.
Executive Committee - The Executive Committee consists of the four principal officers of the organization, the Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Treasurer and Secretary, and up to three (3) additional directors appointed by the President, to serve in such capacity until the next annual meeting of the Board of Directors. The Executive Committee may exercise the authority of the Board of Directors at such times as the board is not in session. The Executive Committee oversees the implementation and administration of the policies and procedures relating to volunteers and employees of the corporation.
Leadership Development Committee – This committee is responsible for:(i) identifying and recruiting prospective directors of the corporation and presenting a slate of nominees for election as directors at the annual meeting, (ii) providing orientation for all newly-elected board members, and (iii) developing recommendations for approval and then implement policies and procedures for conflict resolution among board members. The committee also presents a slate of nominees for appointment as principal officers of the corporation and may make recommendations for chairpersons of the operating committees. In addition, this committee plans an annual board retreat and periodically plans other training events.
Finance Committee – This committee is responsible for: (i) overseeing the implementation and administration of policies and procedures for handling and accounting for the finances of the corporation; (ii) preparing an annual revenue and expense budget for submission to the full Board of Directors; (iii) working closely with the Resource Development Committee to coordinate development of the resources needed meet the revenue goals of the budget; (iv) monitoring the implementation of the budget; and,(v) when necessary, making recommendations to the Board of Directors regarding adjustments to the budget.
Building Committee – This committee is responsible for implementing the construction activity of Habitat homes by: (i) assisting staff to develop comprehensive training and development programs; (ii) monitoring sites to ensure quality, safety and stewardship; and (iii) advising the Board of Directors on policy changes that relate to house design, project specification and disbursement of resources.
Land Development Committee – This committee is responsible for targeting the areas of the community in which the projects of the affiliate will be developed, investigating and researching the availability of property, and recommending property to the Board of Directors for acquisition. The committee works in conjunction with the Building Committee to evaluate the suitability of potential sites prior to acquisition.
Family Selection Committee – This committee works to carry out the Board’s vision by defining the population in need of decent, affordable housing, and by developing processes and policies for selecting those in greatest need, selecting those families and individuals and recommending them for approval by the Board of Directors.
Family Partnership Committee – This committee is responsible for providing Habitat homeowners and newly approved homebuyers/partner families with a support system, educational opportunities, and a forum for discussions pertaining to home ownership and maintenance.
Outreach Committee – This committee is responsible for sharing Habitat’s mission within our community and continually seeking to raise and maintain community awareness of Habitat’s work in ways that properly reflect the mission, beliefs and image of Habitat for Humanity.
ReStore Advisory Committee – This committee provides strategic guidance and direction to the management of the Habitat ReStore. The Committee approves the annual budget prior to being incorporated into the Affiliate’s overall budget.
Resource Development Committee - This committee is responsible for coordinating the identification, cultivation, and development of major sources of funding to the Affiliate. The committee is also responsible for developing a long-range funding plan based directly on the Affiliate’s building goals and long-range strategy, in direct coordination with the Building and Strategic Planning Committees.
Risk Management Committee: This committee assists the Board of Directors in their responsibility for management and oversight of matters relating to financial and other risk exposure faced by Habitat and the assessment, monitoring and control of such risks.
